Monitoring shoulder turn has always been the best way to insure a fully coiled back swing. Turning your front shoulder under the chin creates much of the power used to make a full and balanced down swing. Sometimes, students focus on shoulder turn at the expense of the accompanying weight shift. They turn the shoulders but forget about the transfer of weight from the front foot to the back foot. Neglect of this vital energy source will leave the golfer seriously distance challenged. To stay focused on the weight transfer, I'll have students modify an old swing tempo mantra; "one-two-Wait-three" to: "One-two-WEIGHT-three" By substituting "WEIGHT" for "WAIT", the golfer properly pauses at the top of the back swing-AND-completes the weight transfer.
