SLICING THE BALL Beginners start slicing when they are over come by the urge to muscle the ball to gain more distance on their shots. Instead of using the body to start the club on the down swing they start it with the arms. This creates an outside to in swing path. A club following this path will cut across the ball, striking it with a deflecting blow, imparting sidespin, which will make the ball veer off line and slice to the right. There's no use hitting the ball far if you can't hit it straight. THE OUTSIDE TO IN SWING
The best way to eliminate a slice is to learn how to use the body. Only the body can create the correct swing path. The arms go where the body takes them. On the back swing use a full shoulder turn to put the club on the correct path. Then use the lower body to guide the club back to the ball on the correct path. There's no substitute for hard work and good technique when it comes to keeping the club on the correct swing path.
