Most bad golf
shots are caused by swinging the club on an outside to in path. A club
traveling on an outside to in path will make you to hit it fat, thin, left, or right. Good players
groove a swing that takes the club on an inside to
out path. It's important to understand the difference between the two
swing paths so you can make the necessary swing changes to correct the problem.
Take a look at the two diagrams below.
The blue arrows show the intended target line, which is straight. The
yellow arrows show the two swing paths. On the left, you see a typical
outside to in swing path, the cause of most off line shots. On the right,
take a look at the preferred swing path with the club on an inside to out path,
insuring delivery of a square club face at impact.
 Bad
shots happen when the club travels on an outside to in path.
Golfers who swing the club with their arms create an over the top move
on the down swing which puts the club on the wrong path. As a result,
beginners see ball fly to the right, while better players go left.
The bottom line is, you can't hit it straight with an outside to in
swing.

Learning how to swing the club on an inside to out path is
the only way to gain control over the golf ball. Better golfers use
the body, especially on the down swing, to put the club on a better
path. Getting the arms and body to work together guarantees delivery
of a square club face to the ball.
