Sweaty hands, sore hands, blistered hands, fidgety hands. The hands telegraph everything about the state of our golf swings. Sweaty, sore, or blistered hands are symptoms of too much grip pressure and uneven tempo. Fidgeting at address or during the swing leads to muscling the ball. The hands are the great equalizer, often making up for what we lack in proper technique. I always watch for hand movement. If the student has a grip breakdown, I correct it. First we choose the best grip method, either the overlapping or interlocking grip; then we get get busy with grip form, making sure the hands are properly fitted to the club. I say, once you have a good grip, keep it. Don't fidget at address and keep your grip intact during the swing. Always check it at the finish. Here's a good rule to follow. Don't move your hands until the club goes back in the bag. Trust the hands to help you develop a balanced and rhythmic golf swing. Better golf is in your hands! |
