TURN, BABY TURN!!
LEARN TO TURN The golf swing is made up of equal parts arm swing and body turn. Starting out, new players just want to get the ball airborne, so they rely on the arms alone to get the job done. When golfers are no longer satisfied with playing golf at its most rudimentary level, adding a full body turn can move them to a whole new level. The good news: there is just one body turn to learn; one move that works with every club in the bag. In my studio, I use the following drill to help students learn how to turn. Practice this drill 10 minutes a day and you'll develop the muscle memory needed to gain more distance and control over your golf shots. Start out slowly and be patient. Use a mirror for feedback and to chart your progress. Once you get the hang of this drill take it to the course. Practice in front of friends, on the subway platform, during business meetings. It's a great way to meet other golfers!
The modern golf swing is controlled by a full body turn. Swinging with the arms alone causes all the problems that keeps golf teachers in business. If you want to play better golf, make the body the engine that drives your swing.
